Pride Week 2010

Videos and pictures – One of the videos is from the Dyke March gathering after which I first heard, then saw Wanda Sykes and her wife.  Wanda was amused by a completely naked man with a genital piercing so behind her sunglasses and with her short dreads, I saw her pull out her camera and take a shot of him.  I’m glad their twins were not there!

I can’t believe that a 19 year old kid was shot and killed at the Pink Party.  A few others were injured.  I left relatively early that evening and I had quite a week with six days of staying in the city with various friends visiting from London, Berlin and Philadelphia.  My friend Gene hung out with me a lot and he put me up for a night when two unmentionably flaky people from the Sacramento area left me high and dry at 1am after begging me to wait for them. I knew all the hotels would be booked this weekend of all weekends, so I had the prospect f sleeping on my office floor, which fortunately did not have to manifest.

I met a lot of nice men and women and came into town with my daughter and her two friends and my Yorkie on Sunday, but I didn’t stay too late as the week caught up with me.  I was just getting over losing my voice the week before, but I got a lot of walking in and I had most of my energy back.

Pictures and video of daughter’s graduation

She had rehearsal this morning.  She’s had my Mom and me there and relatives from her Mom’s side are visiting from all over the country.  She got a job, her driver’s license and her yearbook all in the past few weeks.  I’m very proud of her.  I just wish I had a VOICE since yesterday it started to go south, and I wasn’t be able to scream and yell congratulations to her tonight from the audience.  There were 710 people graduating!  It’s a good thing it’s one of the longest days of the year, since it didn’t start until 6:30pm and it was a long ceremony.  We also sat in the shade, which was comfortable when we first got there, but soon got kind of chilly.

Kick off the start to the holiday weekend with my friends, family and yours truly, especially if you haven’t seen my new place in Cherryland.  We will BBQ, the hot tub will be available and those who are coming from far away (good excuse for those who might want to come to the Bay area from regional areas) are welcome to crash, as we have plenty of extra sleeping accommodations between our guest bedroom and three couches, including a fold-out.

WHERE:  914 Blossom Way in Cherryland (Hayward), CA 94541; we are one mile from the Hayward BART station, which is a lovely walk, but there are cabs and buses.  Ask me if you want to car pool with someone from your area and I will see what I can do.

WHEN:  My actual birthday, Friday, July 2 @ 7:30pm

RSVP:  Via email or mobile/text 917-330-6105

BRING:  Something to share gastronomically or to drink, your bathing suit, and a towel, if you want to take a dip in the hot tub.

Trip to Santa Cruz and Pigeon Point Lighthouse

Some pictures and a video of our trip around the bay today.

We thought the buildings by the lighthouse were for the staff, but it’s actually a hostel!  See http://www.norcalhostels.org/pigeon/
