Half Moon Bay Visit

Shea’s aunt, cousin, cousin’s wife and cousin’s son, from Pittsburg, California (his hometown) were camping in Half Moon Bay. That happens to also be my dad’s old stomping ground from after his retirement from the Coast Guard since he had a commercial fishing boat there. We went out to see them (my first time meeting Shea’s family), which also served to escape the heat wave that was in the Bay Area. For those who aren’t familiar with the various microclimates in the area, the coast is almost always more pleasant during times like this. Surprisingly there was very little traffic for a Saturday, and we even got back in time for some pool time with friends in Vallejo, which was still well above 90 degrees when we returned around 6pm.

While in Half Moon Bay we did a lot of outdoor activities, including taking a long walk along the beach, rode the bikes with the cart for dogs hitched to one of them, which completely inspired me to get one for my electric bike. We also had some food al fresco, and played Rummy Tile, a board game inspired by Mahjong. I didn’t win either game, but at least I didn’t come in last the second time I played!

You’ll see in the videos that I come to a sudden stop at least once to make sure the dogs were okay behind me. They were carefully strapped in, but were probably unsure of what to make of the situation. Shea is filming when I did this so he almost ran into me. You can see it from two perspectives which we laughed about in the end. Fortunately no one was hurt during the making of these videos, least of all the dogs.

Donated Furniture in Rental

I’m still taking nice pieces from friends who need to move forward on. I love this armoire a friend in San Francisco had to give from a friend of his who died. The clawfoot desk/dresser that was in this space is now put into the living room, in a space that I really like. There are more pieces to be photographed as I stage the house for the furniture I’m taking back home to my house under renovation.

Independence Day 2024

Went to Fairfield to hang out with friends Gerry, DJ, Joshua and David. We watched fireworks in Vacaville, Martinez, Pittsburg (Shea’s hometown) and downtown Fairfield from a relatively quiet (but windy) hillside with the dogs. When David said “Happy Birthday America” I said “Let’s hope it’s not your last.” Bonnie is near David’s head as he leans back and Snoopy was shaking a little so I held him the entire time. You can sort of see him in the picture with Shea and me.

Birthday 56

Had a wonderful birthday party and was very pleased with the folks who showed up on a work night (Tuesday). There was even live music and singing courtesy of Brian and Andres! Not pictured are Desiree Allyn and her son Cliff, who left before I remembered to break out the camera.

Chef Shea stayed up late the night before and worked all day to prepare a lot of this from scratch, which was staged in the extra garage fridge:

San Francisco Pride 2024

Pride Day in San Francisco was a LOT of walking and fun. We ran into tons of folks we knew on the ferry ride back to Vallejo, but we were so tired and barely got on the boat ourselves that we didn’t take pictures with any of them. At least we got a shot of Sanjay and Neeraj when we stopped by Sundance and joined in for a couple of line-dancing songs. I also got to stop by the booth for LGBTQ Minus Tobacco for the first time at SF Pride, which was great, but I neglected to take a photo with them too, damn it.
