Butterfly Friends

We went to visit Shani Simmons today in her lovely home and yard. She’s a board member of the Bay Area Butterfly Festival and had a garden tour. There were many monarchs and finches in the yard, so she takes her volunteerism seriously! I’m glad Shea got a chance to meet her and I got to meet Shani’s husband Steve. I just realized I neglected to take a picture of the huge portion of her garden which was comprised of milkweed!

Information and Education Days

I’m very proud that I got to meet with my State Assemblymember Lori Wilson with a coalition that worked with the American Heart Association to talk about commercial tobacco in District 11. We also met with a representative from State Senator Bill Todd’s representative on the same subject. It’s so important that we acknowledge that tobacco is legally peddled POISON that becomes the leading cause of premature death in the United States and that our kids are still being addicted with the industry’s targeting. Where is the outrage? Our future generations will look back and ask.

Sacramento Tobacco Legislation Gathering Begins

The American Heart Association has an “Information and Education” day annually for tobacco control issues with various state senators and assemblyman. I’m proud to have been asked to be the lead for AD11 (Lori Wilson) and SD03 (Bll Todd).

Vallejo Pride Proclamation 2024

This evening I made it back from Sacramento in time to participate once again in the Pride Proclamation at Vallejo City Council Meeting. It was a nice crowd and I was very pleased to be among the wonderful community that awaited me when I moved here almost four years ago.

Mental Health Awareness and Tobacco

Back with LGBTQMinusTobacco to one of the local high schools in Vallejo for their mental health awareness fair for the second year in a row. It’s always rewarding when we can educate the students and the staff on the harms of tobacco-related illness and cessation tools.

Business Cards for Volunteering

I didn’t think I’d ever need these business cards, but it’s nice to have with my activism. This would have come in handy in my recent trip to Washington DC, but at least now I have them for my forthcoming trip on tobacco control for Sacramento!
