To avoid crowds, and because it was in the middle of the week this year, we celebrated on the 16th. We ate at one of our favorite veg restaurants, Souly Vegan, in Oakland. I always get the battered kale with a chipotle aoli sauce. Afterwards we drove around Alameda, which is where we saw this street light with all the tennis shoes in the area of the old Naval station.
Usually we go away for the holidays, but this year due to my being on crutches with the knee injury, we stayed home and got to celebrate the New Year with friends in Oakland.
This trip we got a lot of the sun that I really needed after being in the house for a few months with my injured knee. It was good exercise for my knee to be in the pool a lot and I actually was able to do some walking without a cane or crutches. We also happened to run into one of our neighbors here in Hayward who was down in palm Springs for the same weekend, so it was nice to run into him and see a bunch of other friends, together with making some great new ones.
