This was taken about 1998 in Provincetown, Massachusetts during Family Week, an event that is put on annually by Family Equality.  I was on their Board of Directors for years.

Alexandra and I were lucky enough to be part of a photo-text exhibit that went around the world which concentrated on queer parents and their children called “Love Makes a Family.”  See the link to the official site for Family Diversity Projects.

The photographer took the candid shot while I was getting her hair ready.  In the end, I’m glad she used this as the official photo.
